Leading British broadcaster, UKTV, is set to broadcast an innovative series of interstitials made by Rubber Republic on Alibi, the award-winning network's pay crime drama channel, in a television first tomorrow.

The series of eight shorts, which are all between one and three minutes long, make up a point-of-view crime drama, which will be interspersed amongst the traditional Alibi schedule and offer the audience the chance to play detective.

The short films, which will air on Alibi throughout March and April, were ordered by UKTV's Creative Services Producer, Esther Pilgerstorfer, who sits within UKTV's marketing team.

She said,

In an era of increasingly immersive storytelling The Alibis feels like a great way to enhance our audience's link with our crime channel by actively involving them in their own real time crime drama. We'll be watching the audience's reaction to this closely to guide our future innovation.

The Alibis tells the story of a crime in real time, with each episode detailing a different clue or suspect. The series is edited in such a way that it allows viewers to piece together information between episodes and, ultimately, solve the crime.

The series was scripted, directed and produced by award winning film studio Rubber Republic, who have worked with UKTV to develop simple tools to allow audiences to discuss their theories on a number of platforms including Facebook, Twitter and the Alibi website.

Matt Golding, Director of The Alibis and co-founder of Rubber Republic, added,

In an increasingly competitive multi-channel world keeping audiences engaged with your channel is hugely important. Alibi, UKTV's crime drama channel, is taking an innovative approach to keeping audiences hooked in 2015 by creating a miniature crime series that the audience have to solve.

We are delighted to be making content outside the traditional worlds of advertising and viral campaigns. And while we remain committed to making great content that people want to share, it's great to be putting our skills to the test by working on exciting, innovative briefs like this."

Alibi General Manager, Adrian Wills, commented

Rubber Republic have done a great job in realising a concept we hope our audiences will love. Alibi feels the perfect home for this as we have a loyal fan base, who love to discuss our shows, and enjoy the challenge of solving puzzling crimes.
