Much loved crime-drama (6x60’) is set to return for a fourth series on free-streaming service U in 2027. The six-part U&Original drama is co-produced by US broadcaster MASTERPIECE and Monumental Television in association with ITV Studios, with pre-investment from UKTV. MASTERPIECE Mystery! on PBS is the U.S. broadcaster.
The new series will feature an adaptation of Sunday Times Best Seller Robert Thorogood’s novel Murder on the Marlow Belle, alongside brand-new original mysteries.
Returning to solve more complex and intriguing murders in Marlow are meticulous crossword-setter Judith Potts (Samantha Bond), pillar of the community and vicar’s wife Becks Starling (Cara Horgan), and no-nonsense dog walker Suzie Harris (Jo Martin). Working tirelessly alongside DI Tanika Malik (Natalie Dew) and her police team, our crime-solving trio put their unconventional methods into practice to catch the killers in three brand new stories.
The series begins with the discovery of a body in the river that is soon linked to the Marlow Amateur Dramatics Society and a homegrown Hollywood star. The team must also unravel the truth behind a man's sudden death at his mother’s wake. He appears to have died from an allergic reaction, but is there more to it than that? And when the co-owner of a vineyard is found dead, drowned in his own wine, the women work to make sense of this seemingly unmotivated murder. Can our amateur sleuths navigate the family scandals and personal betrayals to unmask the killers in their close-knit community.
Series regulars Holli Dempsey, Phill Langhorne and Tijan Sarr also return for the new series with filming about to begin in Marlow and the surrounding area.
The fourth series will continue the show’s signature blend of humour, mystery and heart, from an exceptional team of writers. Episodes one and two will be written by Robert Thorogood and is an adaptation of his novel Murder on the Marlow Belle. The second two stories are original mysteries: Amy Reith will write episodes three and four, with Robert and Amy co-writing episodes five and six.
The Marlow Murder Club S4 has been commissioned by Susanne Simpson, head of scripted content for MASTERPIECE, with Claire Hookway as executive producer for UKTV. The series has been ordered for U and U&DRAMA by Emma Tibbetts, director of scripted programming, and Hilary Rosen, director of commissioning.
The Marlow Murder Club will launch on free-streaming service, U, in 2027. The series will also be available on free-to-air channel, U&DRAMA.
Masterpiece Head of Scripted Content and Executive Producer Susanne Simpson notes: “The Marlow Murder Club has quickly become one of our most popular Mystery! series. The strong female characters with unique skills and a special bond that resonates with our audience. And who doesn’t like to solve a good puzzle?! The fourth season is sure to deliver on everything the fans have come to love about the show.”
Executive producers for Monumental Television are Alison Owen, Debra Hayward, Alison Carpenter, Amira El-Nemr and Jill Forbes. The series will be produced by Serena Cullen, and Robert Thorogood also serves as an executive producer alongside Steve Barron who will be returning to direct the first four episodes.
Owen and Hayward say, "We’re delighted to be back in Marlow for a fourth time, bringing three more murder mysteries to one of the most picturesque towns in England. Robert and Amy have expertly crafted yet another deliciously twisty set of crimes to be solved. Packed with intrigue, wit and heart, we can’t wait to bring these new adventures to the screen."
ITV Studios is handling international distribution outside of the US.
