W calls for three further series of Inside the Ambulance

Inside The Ambulance

Monday 11 September 2017

W, UKTV's premium entertainment channel, has commissioned three new series of Inside the Ambulance, following the success of series one which saw W up 60% on slot, reaching 3.93m individuals.

Series two and three (2x10x60') will air consecutively in November 2017 with a further special, Inside the Christmas Ambulance (10x60') in 2018. Inside the Ambulance, which is made by Brown Bob Productions, uses GoPro cameras mounted inside an ambulance and on crew members to get viewers closer than ever to the work of West Midlands Ambulance Service.

The UKTV Original series follows the heart-pounding action and human stories of the frontline first responders. From the friendships the ambulance staff forge to the ways they cope with life and death situations they deal with on a daily basis, as well as the lighter moments of working with the great British public, Inside the Ambulance is life-affirming and engaging television.

The Christmas episodes will focus on one of the busiest times of year for the ambulance service. While revellers let their hair down, it's the ambulance staff who are left to pick up the pieces.

Ordered by commissioning executive for UKTV, Natalie Rose, and Steve North, general manager for W. Natalie will executive produce for UKTV alongside Brown Bob Productions' Creative Director Jacqueline Hewer.

Natalie Rose said:

We're just thrilled to be bringing Inside the Ambulance back to W and commissioning in such volume, it demonstrates just how committed we are to giving our audience exactly what they want. Brown Bob have already proven their ability to give the viewer front row access to the grippingly critical work of the paramedics, whilst finding just the right measure of humour and charm, that makes it all so unmissable. The next three series will only deliver more, as well as the surprising nuances Christmas and New Year festivities will inevitably bring.

Brown Bob Productions' Jacqueline Hewer said:

We are delighted to be continuing our relationship with UKTV. These new shows are already shaping up to be bigger, better and funnier than series one, but still maintain the charming insight in to what it's like to to be a paramedic in Britain today."

Inside the Ambulance gives an intimate perspective on what it's like to respond to emergency calls, getting viewers to the heart of the action. As well as getting up close and personal with patients, ranging from life-threatening traumas to everyday emergencies, the series focuses on the hard-working ambulance crews.

Inside the Ambulance follows other UKTV Originals for W in 2017; including critically-acclaimed ratings hit John Bishop: In Conversation With..., which returns for a third series in September and series two of Dr Christian Will See You Now. UKTV Original factual entertainment formats - The Secrets In My Family and Secret Life Of The Ballroom also come to W later this year.

In 2016, UKTV committed over £150m to new programming which has resulted in a 40% increase in entertainment commissions and the biggest commissioned slate in UKTV's 25-year history with successful launches, award-winning returning series and around 50 shows currently in production.
