Our D&I vision is to truly represent society in our workforce and on-screen and create a culture of fairness and respect where we champion difference so that every person feels included and empowered to do their best work. We are focused on creating an environment where every person feels respected and comfortable to be themselves at work, has the opportunity to thrive and feels that their contribution is recognised and valued.
Over the last few years, we have refreshed our D&I strategy with a focus on embedding D&I across the business. This has taken the form of senior leader focused D&I sessions, mandatory D&I training for all colleagues and launching a variety of D&I initiatives.
One of these initiatives has been the implementation of an Inclusion Advocates program. Each team now has an Inclusion Advocate that champions D&I within their teams, shares information, best practices, lessons and learnings to help build an inclusive working environment.
In addition to this, UKTV’s company D&I team hosts and supports events, cultural celebrations and staff networks. Over the last year we have collaborated more closely with BBC Studios’ staff networks, which has connected us with eight active staff D&I networks across BBCS and UKTV. Education is a key part of our D&I strategy and ensuring our colleagues have access to training and workshops is paramount. In the last 12 months we have held open sessions for Trans Inclusion training, Allyship training and Psychological Safety training as well as companywide mandatory Disability Awareness and Resilience training.
At UKTV we also celebrate and educate through panel discussions, learning lounge sessions, our D&I book club and internal podcast. Our celebrations have included International Women’s Day, Ramadan, Easter, Rosh Hashanah, Pride/Black Pride, Mental Health Awareness Week, Inclusion Week, South Asian Heritage Month, Windrush, Diwali, International Men’s Day, Purple Tuesday and Black History Month.
