Jon Richardson and Lucy Beaumont welcome Dave into their home…sort of.

11 June 2019

UKTV's award-winning comedy entertainment channel Dave, has commissioned UKTV Original Meet the Richardsons (6x40') starring Jon Richardson and Lucy Beaumont. Written by Lucy Beaumont and Tim Reid (Car Share), the new sitcom series offers a fictional window into the funny and frustrated marriage of Jon and Lucy.

Jon Richardson said:

I am delighted that Dave have commissioned a new show for me and Lucy. I am less thrilled to have been followed around the house by my wife holding a pen and paper cataloguing every embarrassing moment or mispronunciation to use against me. I hope viewers will gain a real insight into the sniping and passive aggression that we enjoy on a daily basis and will come away feeling better about their own relationships.

Lucy Beaumont added:

It's so wonderful to be able to not only live together but now work together too, I hope it brings me closer to understanding my husband in a way that reading his Twitter direct messages has not. We've both found our marriage really hard so having a TV crew following us around for 6 weeks and being paid money to talk about Jon's bald spot and in a controlling nature is really going to help us.

The comedy series will see stand-up comedians Jon Richardson and Lucy Beaumont play exaggerated versions of themselves as viewers get a glimpse into their home and work lives, surrounded by their celebrity friends and their Hebden Bridge neighbours.

Meet the Richardsons will show what their neighbours really think of them, the type of birthday party they should have for their daughter Elsie, caravan holidays and Jon's constant refusal to do or go to anything, much to Lucy's annoyance (that part isn't scripted).

Produced by Second Act Productions, the series is commissioned by Iain Coyle, UKTV's head of comedy entertainment and ordered by Richard Watsham, UKTV's director of commissioning and Luke Hales, Dave channel director. Meet the Richardsons will be directed and produced by Lee Hupfield and Eddie Stafford.

Iain Coyle said:

We've seen a glimpse into Lucy and Jon's home life in Jon Richardson: Ultimate Worrier, so getting full access was both irresistible and a little disturbing. Think Curb Your Enthusiasm meets One Foot in the Grave, with a dishwasher fetish, and you're about halfway there.

Luke Hales added:

This is Lucy and Jon at their absolute best, their segments in Ultimate Worrier are just brilliant and I can't wait to see more of them both in this show. We're committed to creating fresh and innovative comedy on Dave and this show fits that brief perfectly, there is nothing else like it on TV.

Jon Richardson's series Jon Richardson: Ultimate Worrier returns on Wednesday 3rd July on Dave with guests including Russell Howard, Roisin Conaty, Lolly Adefope, Lou Sanders, Rob Beckett, Matt Forde, Josh Widdicombe, Rosie Jones, Darren Harriott, Richard Osman, Morgana Robinson, Jessie Cave, Angela Barnes and Jamali Maddix.

Meet the Richardsons will air on Dave in 2020 and joins the slate of new UKTV Originals coming up on the channel later this year including Dave Gorman: Terms & Conditions and Comedians Giving Lectures, hosted by Sara Pascoe.

On demand on UKTVPlay

Ever since it was knee high to a TV remote, Dave had an idea. It wanted to be the first place viewers would come for brand-new, award-winning entertainment from the biggest and brightest stars and production companies in the UK. And in the years since, it has launched some of the most exciting and best-loved titles on TV.

There are names like BAFTA and Emmy-nominated Taskmaster - now in its ninth series -, Judge Romesh, Hypothetical, Jon Richardson: Ultimate Worrier and Comedians Giving Lectures. And of course there's Dave Gorman, whose inquisitive mind is returning to the channel for Terms and Conditions Apply. It's not just in front of the camera where the comic genius lies either, with a wealth of scripted treasure such as Sliced, Porters and the globally popular Red Dwarf.

Dave's not content just to make you laugh and share gags with your mates though. Expedition with Steve Backshall and Hurricane Man are showing you regions and aspects of the earth never before seen on TV. Red Bull Soapbox continues to delight with its boundless capacity for invention. And stepping away from the TV entirely, Dave's partnered with CALM to launch the "Be The Mate You'd Want" campaign and the "Conversations Against Living Miserably" podcast.

Reaching 20million viewers a month, Dave's come a long way, but it's only just getting warmed up. / @davechannel
