Only Fools and Horses star Gwyneth Strong, who played Cassandra - Rodney's wife - opened a recreation of the iconic Nags Head pub today to mark the 40th anniversary of the much-loved sitcom. Gwyneth was joined by Philip Pope, who played Tony Angelino on the show, and Andree Bernard, who played barmaid Nervous Nerys. Comedy TV channel Gold are behind the pop-up pub, which opens to the public from today for three days only.

The Nags Head has been lovingly recreated to be true to the series, from the striped wallpaper and chequered floor down to the framed pictures, stuffed rabbit, horse bronzes and trinkets which adorned Del and Rodney's local boozer. Pub patrons will also find the Trotter's 1972 Reliant Rebel Supervan III parked outside.

The backdrop to a number of memorable moments from the show, including Rodney and Cassandra's wedding reception and Uncle Albert's infamous birthday party, fans will be able to live out their favourite scenes whilst sipping on a cocktail complete with umbrella.

Gwyneth Strong, who played Cassandra from the hit show, said:

I can't believe it's been 40 years since the show first aired. There is such a loyal fan base and they are going to love this, it's like going back in time and being back in the original pub!

Those who fancy themselves as a bit of a Del Boy will be thrown back to the 80s where they can purchase a pint for 83p or order 80s classics from the show including Crème de la Menthe or Britvic Orange, as well as a selection of bar snacks from the era including pork scratchings, scampi fries and cheeselets.

The pop-up pub kicks off Gold's Only Fools and Horses 40th anniversary celebrations as the channel plans to turn back time by showing the very first episode of the smash hit show at 8.30pm on Wednesday 8th September - the same date and time that it first aired back in 1981.
