Woodcut Media to produce compelling doc series The Killer in My Family

20 November 2018

  • Deficit financed and distributed internationally as 'My Deadly Relation' by TCB Media Rights

  • Pre-investment deal agreed with multichannel broadcaster UKTV

Woodcut Media is pleased to announce production of a brand-new documentary crime series The Killer in My Family (international title My Deadly Relation). UKTV has pre-invested in the series which is set to premiere on the broadcaster's Really channel in January 2019.

Murder is horrific and devastates many lives, especially the victim's family. The Killer in My Family (6 x 45') explores an alternative approach however and tells the story from the perspective of the murderer's family, including the impact it had on them. The show raises questions such as; Were there any early signs of the killer's intentions? Did they have any idea of the horror that lay ahead? How did they feel when they discovered the terrifying truth?

Episodes feature candid and heart-felt interviews with family members and ex-partners of notorious murderers such as Ian Huntley, Fred West, Richard Ramirez, Phillip Fraser, Levi Bellfield and those involved in the honour killing of Surjit Athwal. Each story includes news coverage, personal archive information, testimonies from police officers and journalists involved in the case, and psychological analysis from experts exploring how the family dealt with the trauma.

Matthew Gordon, Executive Producer, Woodcut Media said:

The fall-out from any murder is devastating not just for the relatives of the victim, but also for the family members of the perpetrator. In this series we wanted get up close and personal, so that these individuals can also fully express the impact this has had on their lives.

Daniel Thomas, UKTV's Acquisitions Manager, has brokered the deal for UKTV.

Daniel Thomas said:

This is set to be a fascinating series and we're looking forward to working with Woodcut Media to offer families whose lives have been irrevocably changed due to crimes committed by a relative, an opportunity to share their story.

TCB Media Rights has provided deficit financing and will be distributing the series internationally under the title My Deadly Relation.

Paul Heaney, CEO, TCB Media Rights added

Buyers are constantly asking for a new "way in" to telling true crime stories. The Killer in My Family takes a fresh view point which will offer viewers well known crimes with a new twist.

Executive producers are Kate Beal and Matthew Gordon (Woodcut Media), Paul Heaney (TCB Media Rights) and Daniel Thomas (for UKTV).
